A proven worldwide education framework

ExquAIro employs the Global AI Network (GAIN®) learning method – a world standard in AI education that is used by companies like Nike, eBay and Heineken. All modules use the GAIN online learning environment to fully support the learning experience, with a Learning Management System (that contains all the training material and exercises), the AWS cloud workspace to do casework and an online proctored exam to test required skill levels. After passing the exam, participants receive and official, accredited certificate which can easily be added and shared on LinkedIn.

Hands-on approach on real-life cases 

Learning by doing takes center stage in all modules, which enables participants to master new AI skills and bridge theory to their own practice. In all trainings, theory is combined with practice on real-life cases from the pharma industry and medical field.  

Education driven by fore-front research 

The education content from exquAIro is based on AI research in the medical field. All profits of exquAIro are directly re-invested in novel research through the exquAIro foundation, that forms the basis for our educational material. This assures an education-research loop for continuous innovation and fore-front science. Hereby, participation in the program also contributes to society by funding medical research. This research also fuels our education with unique datasets, such as multi-omics, Whole Slide Images and longitudinal patient records.

Many people don’t know that the academic field of artificial intelligence was already born in 1955. However, it is only in the last decade that it has started to deliver on its promises. It has accelerated into a fast-growing field with novel application that were deemed impossible before. While many novel applications are not designed for the medical field per se, they can be of great value there. That’s also what drives me: finding impactful new applications of AI within the medical field.

The promise of AI is to create amazing feats of technology that will enable many breakthroughs in the coming decades. For me, the most interesting applications are the ones where AI is used to ‘do good’. Within the medical and pharmaceutical field, this becomes very tangible in making humanity healthier. My personal ambition would be to empower people to use AI to improve treatments or find better drugs, faster. With over 10 years of experience in professional education, I’ve seen incredible ways in which people can grow and triple their value through learning. I am excited to ensure that the exquAIro curriculum delivers just what they need to grow and make the world healthier.

Editorial Board exquAIro | Associate Professor in functional genetics of chronic respiratory disease at Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (UMCG)

As a molecular geneticist and immunologist, I am interested in novel pathways regulating immune functions of airway epithelia. Recent advances in data technology have greatly boosted the available data sources and volumes, such single-cell RNA-seq data or FISH image data. However, analyzing this ultra high-dimensional data is challenging. Machine Learning and Deep Learning allow us to discover new patterns and pathways.

A collaboration to foster medical innovation with AI

Since 2018, UMCG and Rewire have worked together to perform fundamental research on the interface of AI and biomedicine. This has already resulted in 8 different research streams, demonstrating the value of cross-border collaboration firsthand. A key focus of this collaboration has been the use of multiple mixed data sources, to gain a better understanding of respiratory diseases. Through exquAIro, UMCG extends its already broad education for graduate studies, also to a postgraduate audience. The program builds on the data and AI expertise of Rewire and the educational framework of GAIN.
