Yesterday 7 October marked the launch of the second AI & Data Bootcamp by exquAIro in Groningen. The opening was led by Stephanie Klein-Nagelvoort, a member of the Board of Directors of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). In her speech, she highlighted the crucial role of data analysis and AI in healthcare and expressed her admiration for the participants eager to expand their expertise in this innovative field.
The rapid growth of (bio)medical data—such as multi-omics, imaging data, and electronic health records—makes AI expertise essential for researchers. In the AI & Data Bootcamp, participants will learn advanced AI methods and collaborate with experts to develop high-quality research proposals, achieving a funding success rate of 50% or higher, compared to the typical 10%.
Medical breaktroughs
Attendees will not only advance their careers but also boost their potential for groundbreaking medical breakthroughs, supported by expert guidance and mentorship. ExquAIro also facilitates funding for transformative AI-focused research projects developed during the bootcamp.
In addition to exquAIro speakers such as Marnix Bügel, Gerard Koppelman, and Ilya Petoukhov, partners from UMCG were also present. Bart Scheerder and Martin Smit, both representing UMCG, expressed their enthusiasm about the collaboration and the potential of AI in research and healthcare.
Participants
Over the coming weeks, the bootcamp will provide an intensive program in which participants can sharpen their skills in Machnie Learning, Data Technology, Biomedical applications and Impact & Ledership. The participants will also get the chance to work on their own data and formulate a grant proposal for their future AI project. The participants for this edition include:
- Arnout Smit (Methodologist & statistician at UMCG University Centre for Psychiatry)
- Carola Haven (UD/Assistant professor Anatomy and Medical Physiology at UMCG)
- Eugene Berezikov (Group Leader ERIBA)
- Joeri van der Velde (Postdoctoral researcher Genetics at UMCG)
- Kai Yu Ma (Academic Teacher Genetics Genetica at UMCG en DASH)
- Mar Bellido (Hematologist Hematology at UMCG):
- Matthijs Berends (Medical Epidemiologist/Microbiologist/Sr Researcher Medical Microbiology & Infection Prevention at UMCG)
- Paola Mian (Hospital Pharmacist Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology at UMCG):
- Sven Mieog (Surgeon, HPB oncology, pancreatic cancer res. Surgery at Leiden University Medical Center)
- Tom van der Laan (Chief Medical Information Officer and Otorhinolaryngologist at UMCG)
ExquAIro wishes all participants great success in completing the program and looks forward to the impact they will make in the field of data and AI.
